Anyone buying a smartphone, such as an Oppo Reno6, nowadays buys a photo and video camera at the same time. It sounds so obvious, but not so long ago you really had to pull out your wallet three times for those three things....
The world is changing, technology is becoming more compact and mobile phones are not called 'smartphones' for nothing; they are simply very versatile and smart. And the integration of ever-improving cameras, photo or video, today is something you expect as a buyer, rather than being surprised by. Although sometimes there are still some nice surprises to be found. Like the video functionalities on the new Oppo Reno6 series: Bokeh Flare Portrait and AI Highlight Video modes. Bokeh Flare Portrait Video lets you capture shots with subtly blurred backgrounds. So real-time video processing to capture, for example, portrait videos with bokeh light spots in the background, while keeping the subject sharp and clear in focus. A functionality you no doubt already know from photography, but so now it can also be applied to videos.
Plastic surgeon
The second innovation is the AI Highlight Video function. This is powered by a powerful algorithm that greatly improves the exposure of moving and still images, resulting in bright and true-to-life colours. The Ultra Steady Video mode additionally allows you to stabilise even the most challenging shots. The Portrait Beautification Video mode is a kind of digital cosmetic surgeon that performs beauty effects on your face. Fun, but mostly a gimmick. And finally, Ultra Dark mode automatically turns on in low light, so details can be captured perfectly even during twilight or even at night.

Normal and Pro
The very nicely designed, good-feeling (but unfortunately not waterproof) Reno6 series comes in two flavours: as a Pro 5G (top photo) and regular 5G (bottom photo). In terms of lenses, there is a 64MP main camera present (50MP on Pro, technically boostable to 108MP), an 8MP wide-angle lens (16MP on Pro) and a 2MP macro lens. The Pro also features a 13MP telephoto lens. The cameras provide nice vibrant colours -for our taste in nature shots, sometimes a tad too saturated-, plenty of contrast and nice sharp stabbed images. In short, a great camera to always have with you for moments you want to preserve.
And watching back, of course, is done on the fine display. Both Reno6 Series devices feature large 6.55-inch AMOLED screens that can handle a fine refresh rate of up to 90Hz and display content smoothly, whether gaming or streaming.
Specifications
Although brothers with almost the same name, the regular and Pro not only va appearance differ quite a bit (the regular looks a lot like the iPhone 12; the Pro is a bit rounder), but the latter is also about €300 more expensive (€499; 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM to €799; 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM). The reason, of course, can be found in the extensive specs, such as processors and storage used. Exactly what those are, and whether you find them worth the price difference, you can decide for yourself HERE view.!
