Seiko has been around for 140 years. When Kintaro Hattori founded his company in 1881, he was only 21 years old. In the 50 years he was at the helm, Seiko grew to become the leading watchmaker in Japan, with its own design and manufacturing facilities. That achievement was mainly the result of Hattori's vision that the brand should \"Always be one step ahead of the rest\"....<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anno 2021, Seiko will release a series of creations to celebrate its 140th anniversary, full of references to the brand's past. Including a new series of Prospex diving watches inspired by a special Japanese island called Iriomote. For those not familiar with it, this island, in Okinawa prefecture, attracts divers from all over the world. Not surprisingly, as the coral reefs here teem with marine life. But the island's charm also lies mainly in the pristine mangrove forests that surround it. Furthermore, Iriomote is home to several species of flora and fauna that are rare and in some cases even unique to this island. With its reefs, jungle, mangrove forests, beaches, rivers and waterfalls, Iriomote is an island of rich and varied beauty. And the green nature there was the inspiration for the deep green of the dials in this new series of watches.<\/p>\n

The two mechanical watches are based on Seiko's famous 1968 diver's watches. One is a 300-metre waterproof diver's watch with a unique one-piece case structure. It is suitable for various modes of diving and is powered by calibre 8L35, which was specially designed for diver's watches. The second mechanical watch contains a movement that ticks 21,600 vpu and is water-resistant to 200 metres. Both are offered as limited editions<\/em>, of 3,000 and 6,000 pieces respectively. The third watch in this new series is an up to 200-metre waterproof, solar-powered chronograph. This too is a limited edition of 4,000 pieces. All three watches are presented on stainless steel straps, but an additional silicone strap is included. Check: seiko.co.uk<\/p>\n
