Spring has sprung and that means the famous Record Store Day is also just around the corner. On Saturday 20 April, record shops across the country will kick off with a line-up of activities.
Apart from being an ode to the independent record shop, this global vinyl festival is also the perfect time to expand your record collection. Our friends at audio brand Bowers & Wilkins have been leaders in sound and music production for decades. They shared with us their favourite selection of Record Store Day 2024's not-to-be-missed live performances and exclusive releases.
Concerto - Amsterdam
Amsterdam has long been the epicentre of Record Store Day. Legendary record shop Concerto opens at 11:00 am its doors and has a lot in store. Signings from the likes of Typhoon, Brass Rave Unit and the recently spotlighted Hiqpy. This four-member group from Amsterdam was unanimously voted Record Store Day's number one talent after a series of successful concerts.
Velvet Music - Amsterdam
After kicking off at Concerto, dive into the Jordaan as Velvet Music also has a daily programme that you can say hello to. To 12:00 see the Amsterdam formation here BRUUT!. Known for their unique blend of musical styles and genres. Later in the day, Amsterdam-based hip-hop rapper Bob from South, known among others for his singles 'Karpervissen' and 'Ik Huil nooit'.
De Plaatboef - Rotterdam
At the Plaatboef in Rotterdam, hear Dutch pop band Hiigo, the Belgian indie pop talent Noa Lee and multi-instrumentalist Nelson 'Chino' Ayala, better known as Indian Askin. They have performed at Black Cross, Pinkpop, and the mainstage of Best Kept Secret in recent years. With their third studio album 'Lonely Citizen', they have released their most personal record to date.
Plato & Broese - Utrecht
In Utrecht, record favourite Plato gets to see concerts by rock band Ziggy Splynt, The Föhns, the pop duo Donna Blue and the Hague post-punk ladies of Coco Cocaine. A little further around the corner you hear at Broese The Entrance, The Stream, Marlene Bakker and Marien Dorleijn.
Patronaat Afterparty - Haarlem
This year, for the first time, there will also be an official after party to appropriately close Record Store Day! The party starts at 19:30 at the Patronaal in Haarlem. Here you will see shows from POM, FIEP and M. Lucky. Who knows, you might bump into your favourite artist there too!
