Two legendary trainers celebrate a comeback: Dutch brand Goliath and Puma's legendary Slipstream...
Goliath is back
The trainer brand Goliath is back! Never heard of it? Neither had we, but this nearly 100-year-old, Dutch (!) trainer brand was once founded in 1925 and is experiencing a complete revival. With new designs, duh, but the same quality. Extremely strong, as you would expect from a Goliath. With a sole produced by a unique process of vulcanisation. A process in which the sole is attached by heating to the other parts of the shoe, from the toe to the heel, to create a rock-solid construction.
The first range of trainers to hit the market now focuses primarily on men and appears in six different colour combinations, all with a white heat-pressed sole and a combination of nylon and suede. The retail price is €89.95. The Goliath collection is available exclusively at Sacha, in its 50 shops across the Benelux and, of course, in the webshop. Also check houseofgoliath.com
New Slipstream
Puma, which claims to be 'the fastest sports brand in the world', introduces the new Slipstream. The origins of this legendary shoe go back to the Slipstream, which saw the light of day as a high-top basketball shoe in 1987. Presented as a shoe "designed for the serious player", according to advertisements of the time, the Slipstream was a pioneer due to its innovative use of materials and its extravagant embellishments such as faux snakeskin and faux fur. In 2002, Puma reintroduced a number of Slipstream retros to the Japanese market, such as the Slipstream Snake and Slipstream Beast, to satisfy the appetite for exaggerated 'more is more' trainers. There were also a number of special 'made in Japan' versions.
Now, 35 years after the first Slipstream, a new chapter in this story appears. Indeed, this summer, the legendary Slipstream celebrates its return in different colourways. Today's evolution of the Slipstream combines the basketball DNA of yesteryear with a sleek and modern look, with a contemporary feel thanks to the sculpted midsole, new overlays and updated collar construction.
Available in different colourways via PUMA.com and selected retailers. From €110.
