You've probably never heard of this French brand. Not surprisingly, as the classic Airain Watches was only recently awoken from its deep sleep by Tom van Wijlick, the same Dutchman who also energetically revived the Lebois & Co. brand. The first watches that Airain 2.0 is sending out into the world are very promising. Namely, these are reissues of the illustrious Type 20 watch, a 50s vintage model in military style.
NEW OLD
It comes in two flavours: with a black dial and, as a limited edition, with a tasteful chocolate brown dial. The dial is protected by a domed Hesalite crystal and features the original Arabic numerals, with two registers at 3 and 9 o'clock that can count up to 30 minutes. The hand-applied Super-LumiNova colour has been carefully chosen to recall the luminous material of the original Type 20.
Although at 39.5 mm, the stainless steel case is just slightly larger than the original (38 mm), it unmistakably has the allure of its ancestor. Around the dial you will find a bezel with count-down function. The Type 20 Re-Edition is powered by Airain's calibre AM1 with a power reserve of 55 hours, developed by Manufacture La Joux-Perret S.A. from La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. This timepiece is a manually wound chronograph with column wheel and a real flyback function.
The special pre-order price for both watches is €2540 and €2600 (for the Brown Limited Edition) www.airain.com
