OPPO launches its latest premium flagship, the Find X3 Pro 5G. We were allowed to play with it for a few weeks in advance and are convinced. This is an absolute winner, with some very special extras too. Not surprisingly, OPPO has now climbed to 3rd place of most popular smartphone makers in the Netherlands!
3MP MICROLENS
The first extra you discover when you unpack it: a 65-watt charger is included. That sounds obvious, but is far from it these days. Thankfully, OPPO does. And even a protective case is provided. Those are nice things after all. Where the attention goes next, of course, is the device itself. That exudes class and elegance. Smooth polished Gorilla glass on the front and back with a gently sloping 'camera island' in which you discern four lenses. This quad camera setup consists of a 50 MP wide-angle lens + 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens (equipped with an excellent Sony IMX766 sensor), a 13 MP telephoto lens and... a 3 MP micro lens. That last one is something unique and has to be seen to be believed. This is because it lets you shoot at just 1 to 3 mm distance, magnifying the image up to 60x. To make this possible, this microlens is equipped with a ring light, which ensures that the subject is still sufficiently exposed while you hold the smartphone pretty much against it. The photos you take this way are - especially for a smartphone - unique. Microscopic shots that make visible what your eyes cannot see. Whether you'll use it often? Well, that's another matter. But the fact that this is technically possible literally opens up new perspectives. There is also the selfie camera on the front with 32 MP. And the OPPO Find X3 Pro lets you film in 4K resolution and optical image stabilisation is also provided. Serious hardware, then, that elevates this smartphone into a professional photo/video camera in the right hands.
TOP SCREEN
All the beauty that this high-quality set of cameras captures can also be admired on a screen that matches it perfectly. Indeed, this flagship from OPPO is their first smartphone to both capture, store and display 1 billion colours. The colours displayed are very good and the screen is perfectly readable from all angles The device is equipped with a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen (QHD+ and A+ certified) with 10-bit image and video processing for this purpose. This results in a crystal-clear viewing experience, which is great for gaming and watching movies, thanks in part to the lightning-fast 120hz refresh rate. That refresh rate is variable, by the way. In fact, you can also choose a standard 60Hz refresh rate to extend battery life or let the device choose its own, up to a maximum of 120Hz. It then switches to the much lower refresh rate of 10 Hz while reading an e-book, for instance, which will make your battery last even a bit longer. That 4500mAh battery offers you plenty of stamina, but also charges super fast, thanks to OPPO's own fast-charging technology SuperVOOC 2.0: from 0-100% in just 35 minutes! In addition, you can take advantage of the wireless AirVOOC fast charging technology. With a 30W AirVOOC charger the device is fully charged again after 80 minutes.
SPEED
The OPPO Find X3 Pro 5G is lightning fast. We don't have a laboratory at our disposal here, so we have to make do with what we perceive visually. But trust us, this smartphone is among the very fastest on the market. That's not so surprising either, as it features benchmark hardware, such as the Snapdragon 888, the best processor that can pretty much be found for an Android phone, and combines this with 12GB of working memory, 256GB of storage and the already mentioned 120Hz display. The result is a smartphone that does not disappoint on any front and proves to be an ideal device both for gaming, watching movies, switching between apps or performing various tasks side by side. And on top of that comes its suitability for the blazing fast 5G network. No criticism at all? Yep, one small point: that 256GB of storage is not expandable, as there is no microSD card support. Is that a bad thing? Oh well, 256 GB will get you a long way, especially if you use Cloud support for storage. So you probably won't even notice.
Weighing just 193g, the OPPO Find X3 Pro is also a pleasant bit lighter than some competitors, making it a device you'll want to carry with you at all times. Thereby, it doesn't matter what the weather is: the IP68 certificate offers the pleasant assurance that you can also use this smartphone to extensively film a photogenic sandstorm or rainstorm without any problems.
PRECAUTIONS
The OPPO Find X3 Pro comes with its own software based on Android 11, which is nicely comprehensive and allows for optimal personalisation. Backgrounds, colours, fingerprint styles, edge lighting et cetera can all be easily customised to your preferences. The same goes, for instance, for the shape and size of icons and creating a smart sidebar to launch apps quickly.
SPECIAL
And finally, we come back to the special extras we started this review with. First of all, the O Relax app that comes standard on this device. This is great for when you want to completely unwind mentally. With dreamy relaxation sounds, ditto games, breathing exercises and sounds of cities in distant lands, you can escape the world around you in your mind for a while.
Last but not least, the unique way this OPPO Find X3 Pro 5G alerts you to calls and messages: in fact, the ring and notification tones on this device have been designed by none other than the German film composer Hans Zimmer. Now don't expect to hear the soundtrack of Gladiator or Interstellar with every call, but the ringtones are original and unmistakably unlike anything else. And thus perfectly suited to this special smartphone.
