While one half of the population struggles with the effects of drought (fires, thirst, crop failures et cetera), the other half sometimes literally cannot keep their heads above water due to floods and excess rainfall.Fresh water. 785 million people in this world already have to take a long walk every day to taste it at all. And thanks to a changing climate and a growing world population, it is becoming more and more of a concern. So reason to use it very sparingly, agrees Swiss watch brand Oris.
LAKE BAIKAL
That is why it linked itself to organisations dedicated to monitoring and conserving Lake Baikal. Is that important, a lake somewhere far away in Russia? Yep, because Lake Baikal, with as many as 300 rivers flowing into it, is not only the deepest lake on earth but also contains 20 per cent of all the world's available freshwater.
AQUIS DIVER
To support the non-profit organisations (Point No. 1 and the Lake Baikal Foundation) dedicated to preserving this vast freshwater source, Oris introduces Lake Baikal Limited Edition, a special edition of the Aquis diver with a dial and ceramic diving ring that are the same beautiful blue colour as the ice on this huge lake. The 43.5 mm measuring watch comes in an edition of 1999 pieces and costs €2150, part of which will benefit said organisations. The watch's automatic movement is protected by a steel case that is, of course, waterproof up to 300 metres. So don't accidentally drop it in this lake, as Baikal measures a whopping 1642 metres at its deepest point....
