The Longines Spirit Titanium is one of the nicer pilot watches recently introduced. And, thanks to its slim shapes and titanium case, it is particularly comfortable to wear too....

The Longines Spirit collection is a tribute to the world of aviation. Watches for pilots, men who once dreamed of becoming pilots or are simply lovers of the distinctive aesthetic peculiar to pilot watches: a no-nonsense functionality with optimal legibility.
Comfort on the wrist
Classic pilot's watches are often equipped with such a large, tulip-shaped crown, once invented to make it possible to operate the watch even when wearing gloves. Not infrequently, such a crown detracts from wearing comfort, as it presses against your wrist when you bend your hand. This Spirit by Longines also features a prominent crown, but fortunately it is so well proportioned that it combines its vintage look with pleasant wearing comfort.
That comfort is further optimised by a modest case size of, optionally, 40 or 42 mm. And, of course, by the material the case is made of: beautifully brushed and polished Grade 5 titanium (a titanium-aluminium-vanadium alloy). Because that makes it considerably lighter in weight than a steel watch, while at the same time this metal is stronger and also boasts a stylish, slightly darker colour.
Design in balance
Spirit's design is a play of contrasts, with dark tones and a subtle sheen. The hands, numerals, stars and winged hourglass have a subdued gold tone, for a nice balance between colours and materials. A balance enhanced by the absence of a date window, which further accentuates the watch's aeronautical symmetry. Super-LumiNova on hands and numerals ensures legibility in the dark.
5-star movement
The accuracy of the Longines Spirit is guaranteed by an automatic movement (72-hour power reserve) with a silicon balance spring, a material that is light, non-magnetic, wear-resistant, stainless and insensitive to thermal expansion. All these properties ensure that the models in this collection could be classified chronometers (certified by the COSC, Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute). The five stars on the dial are a nod to Longines' past, when this was still an indication of maximum quality and reliability - somewhat in the vein of how Michelin stars are still used today.
Tyre of your choice
The new Longines Spirit comes with a titanium bracelet or a NATO-type nylon strap, which are easily interchangeable. The latter strap has been developed using a special weaving technique that reflects the anthracite and black colours of the dial and offers optimal comfort. The titanium strap offers the advantage of being lighter than its steel counterparts, but also provides an understated, sporty and stylish look.
